Lake

Footprint
Acres is a new ecovillage for all GLBT (gay, lesbian,
bisexual, & transgender) individuals and families
to explore an environmentally sustainable community from
a queer sensibility. Ecological sustainability is the
primary focus of our long-term vision. We strive to be
good stewards of our land. Our values include sustainable
living, simplicity, social and environmental justice,
and reverence for the Earth and all living things. Our
mission is to develop and demonstrate a model of living
in harmony with the land and with each other.
Located
north of the world famous Napa Valley, Footprint Acres
has a fully cross-fenced 40 acres in Lake County, California.
The land is semi-arid with rolling hills and dotted with
mature valley oak, and two small seasonal ponds and creek.
Currently,
there is a common house, and two rustic cabins. Each individual
or family will have a small, private cabin. There is a
barn, garage/workshop, as well as a pen for small domestic
animals and a chicken coop.
Individuals are encouraged to farm, ranch, and develop
cottage industries on the land and/or work off the land
in nearby towns in Lake, Napa, Mendocino and Sonoma Counties.
San Francisco and Sacramento are both approximately a
3 hour drive. Public transportation is available between
Lake, Napa, Sonoma, and San Francisco Counties.
Footprint
Acres is fairly remote and only accessible via a private
3 mile gravel road. Arrangements can be made to pick visitors
up at the local bus depot.
Footprint Acres actively seeks to include all GLBT communities
in activities including retreats, environmental education
workshops, internships, visitor/work weekends, and live/work
programs. Outreach and education are integral to our mission.
In
accordance with current scientific models for ecological
carrying capacity and human footprint analysis, full-time
membership will be limited to 4 adults. Some associate
memberships will be available. Footprint Acres does not
shy away from core issues of human overpopulation and
the resulting environmental & social deterioration.
